This post is part 2 of a 4 part series.
Here are some helpful hints to help you brainstorm some business name ideas. Get 2 sheets of paper and get ready to write down ideas on one of them.
1. Write down you and your partners first and last names and all industry keywords you can think of.
Grab a thesaurus, or use http://thesaurus.com/ to find similar words. You may also want to try translating some words to other languages for even more ideas.
2. Write down out-of-the-box keywords. Think about the verb or action that you (or your team) will be doing and what other occupation is associated with that action. For example, if you are going to have a repair business, instead of only thinking about ‘repair’ or ‘fix’, you may want to think about mechanic or doctor as part of your name. If you are going into a service industry, maybe ‘Butler’ would be a good word in your name.
3. Think broad. For example, if your business has anything to do with technology, you can get away with simply putting ‘Technologies’ behind it.
4. Think limited. If (and only if), your business will be limited to a certain area, you may want to include the area name. For example, if you live in Dallas – Fort Worth, TX area, you may be able to put DFW or your city name at the beginning or end of your name.
Now take that paper and come up with some combinations on the other sheet of paper. On my next posting, I will discuss names to avoid.
